MSCF Launches Women in Quant Finance Club

The MSCF program at Carnegie Mellon University is breaking new ground with the launch of the MSCF Women in Quant Finance (WQF) Club. This pioneering initiative champions gender diversity in quantitative finance, fostering a vibrant community of support, mentorship, and innovation. WQF is dedicated to empowering women in the field, creating opportunities to excel academically, thrive professionally, and lead with confidence.

At the heart of WQF is a mission to close the gender gap in quantitative finance. The club aims to build an inclusive space for collaboration and growth while inspiring the next generation of women leaders. Through mentorship programs, networking events, educational workshops, and advocacy initiatives, WQF is setting the stage for real change in the field.

A Strong Start: Trading Competition Success

The WQF hit the ground running with its first major collaboration—a trading competition co-hosted with CMU’s Smart Woman Securities Club on November 2, 2024. Drawing nearly 125 participants, this event showcased the potential of women-led initiatives to drive meaningful engagement and learning.

“The successful execution of this trading competition is a great start and a practical step toward achieving our goals,” said Lydia Song, WQF’s inaugural president. The competition offered participants the chance to work with cutting-edge technology, institutional-level data, and guidance from industry mentors, reinforcing the club's dedication to experiential learning and professional development.

Exciting Plans for 2024/2025

Looking ahead, the WQF has ambitious plans for the academic year. The club will host a wide range of events, including exclusive company visits, women-led panels, mentorship opportunities, and social gatherings. These activities are designed to provide members with invaluable connections, hands-on experiences, and insights into the industry. Collaborations with leading companies will further enhance the club’s offerings, opening doors for professional growth.

The MSCF Women in Quant Finance Club invites students, alumni, and industry partners to join in shaping the future of quantitative finance. By participating in WQF’s initiatives, members have the opportunity to be part of a supportive and innovative community, championing diversity, leadership, and excellence in the field.
